The average time it took a trucker to enter and exit the ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., inched up one minute in June from the same month in 2016, although data from the Harbor Trucking Association revealed encouraging signs that drivers are moving quicker than a year ago.

Cargo owners will soon pay more to have trucking companies pick up their containers after the West Coast Marine Terminal Operators Agreement announced a 2.3% increase in the PierPass fee effective Aug. 1.

The Port of Los Angeles said its May import cargo volume rose 5.5% from a year ago, to almost 361,000 20-foot equivalent units.

Total container volume at the Port of Los Angeles rose 3.7% in April from a year ago, the 15th consecutive month of growth, the port said.
