Specialty truck maker Oshkosh Truck Corp.’s fiscal third-quarter improved and the company raised its earnings outlook for the year.

Trailer maker Wabash National Corp. reported its second-quarter profit rose to $5.9 million or 18 cents a share, from $5 million or 15 cents a year ago.

Wireless-services provider Qualcomm Inc. said its fiscal third-quarter profit jumped 24% from a year ago, to $798 million or 47 cents a share, from $643 million or 37 cents last year.

Refrigerated truckload carrier Marten Transport’s second-quarter net income plunged 42% due to lower freight rates and reduced revenue per truckload.

Heavy equipment and diesel engine manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. said Friday its second-quarter profit plunged 21%, though sales reached a record.

Truckload carrier USA Truck reported its second-quarter profit fell 63% on lower freight demand, declining to $1.6 million or 15 cents a share, from $4.4 million or 38 cents a year ago.

Freight railroad Union Pacific Corp.’s second-quarter earnings jumped 14% to $446 million or $1.65 a share, from $390 million or $1.44 a year ago.

Truckload carrier Knight Transportation’s second-quarter profit rose to $18.2 million or 21 cents a share, from $18.1 million or 21 cents a year ago.

Eastern freight rail line CSX Corp.’s second-quarter earnings fell almost 17% from a year earlier, the railroad said.
