Profit at Ryder System rose in the first quarter of 2025 as higher contract revenue outweighed ongoing weakness in the rental and used vehicle sales businesses.

Used car prices in the U.S. fell 4.2% in June, their biggest monthly drop since the early days of the pandemic, as a key measure of inflation eases.

The average sales price for a used Class 8 sold in April set the all-time record, clearing $57,000, 50% higher than a year earlier.

Ensuring that used specialty equipment is in top working condition is more important to buyers than a few nicks and scratches on a truck, a re-marketing expert said.

Used Class 8 sales rose in December along with double-digit gains in prices as the average heavy-duty truck’s mileage and age remained below year-earlier levels, ACT Research reported.
