PepsiCo said March 17 that it’s acquiring the prebiotic soda brand Poppi for $1.95 billion.

PepsiCo said Feb. 4 that high prices and changing consumer tastes have weakened U.S. demand for its snacks and drinks but it’s confident it can turn that around in the coming year.

The FTC sued PepsiCo on Jan. 17, alleging that it has engaged in illegal price discrimination by giving unfair price advantages to Walmart at the expense of other vendors and consumers.

Albertsons is giving up on its merger with Kroger and it is suing the grocery chain, saying it didn’t do enough to secure regulatory approval for the $24.6 billion agreement.

The news follows PepsiCo's confirmation of the Chicago plant's full closure earlier in the week. Sales, delivery and warehouse functions will continue at the other three locations.

PepsiCo said the decision was difficult, but it described the 60-year-old building as a facility with “physical limitations.” The company said it would pay workers for the next 60 days

PepsiCo lowered its organic revenue forecast for the year after U.S. consumers continued to pull back on buying its snacks and drinks.

Albertsons and Kroger insist a merger would help them lower prices and better compete with big rivals such as Walmart, Costco and Amazon.

WK Kellogg Co. is closing one U.S. cereal plant and downsizing another as part of a plan to consolidate its operations in newer facilities.

Stop & Shop said July 12 that it will close 32 underperforming grocery stores in the Northeast U.S. by the end of the year.
