Universal Logistics Holdings experienced a 19% year-over-year increase in revenue but a slight dip in net income for the fourth quarter of 2024, the company reported Feb. 6.

The transportation sector saw merger and acquisition activity gain momentum as market conditions stabilized in the second half of 2024, according to experts.

The Greenwich, Conn.-based less-than-truckload carrier posted net income of $76 million, compared with $58 million during the same time the previous year.

Old Dominion Freight Line experienced a year-over-year decline in revenue during the fourth quarter due to its less-than-truckload operations moving fewer tons, the company said Feb. 5.

But the Charlotte, N.C.-based asset-light transportation provider posted a net loss of $20 million, or negative 12 cents a diluted share, for the three months ending Dec. 31.

The transportation sector is bracing for the possibility that a slew of new tariffs could soon hit some of its most critically important industries, according to experts.

Saia Inc. closed out 2024 with lower fourth-quarter earnings amid efforts to reinvest in the operations of the business, but it set a revenue record for the full year, the company said Feb. 3.

Eaton Corp. reported gains in net income and revenue for the fourth quarter of 2024.

The Fort Smith, Ark.-based logistics company posted net income of $29 million, or $1.24 a diluted share, for the three months ending Dec. 31.

Used Class 8 truck sales in December increased 11.3% year over year and 4.8% from November's level, according to ACT Research.
