If the Republicans win a majority of seats in the Senate after the midterms, Mitch McConnell — the chamber’s Republican leader — would be in a prime position to manage legislation regarding the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s hours-of-service rules. He also would manage the floor time for key transportation bills during the Obama administration’s final two years. McConnell has fought to pull away from Democratic challenger Alison Lundergan Grimes. If elected, Grimes is expected to side with Democrats on major transportation issues.
