DOT Awards 5 States Grants for Small Infrastructure Repairs

The Department of Transportation awarded about $4.5 million in grants this week to repair roads and bridges in several states.

Louisiana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Virginia were awarded about $1.5 million from the Federal Highway Administration’s innovative bridge research and deployment program.

Specifically, Louisiana received $250,000 to reinforce bridges in Vermillion County; New Hampshire received about $280,000 to modernize bridge systems in Belknap County; Oregon got $260,000 to pay for structural reinforcements for a bridge in Douglas County; Pennsylvania was awarded $400,000 to purchase advance support systems for a bridge in Allegheny County; and Virginia was awarded about $283,000 to upgrade a bridge in Halifax County.

ā€œFrom shorter work-related traffic tie-ups to roads and bridges that last longer, grants like these have the potential to help drivers everywhere,ā€ Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said.

ā€œThese grants are one of the many forms of investment in America’s infrastructure needs,ā€ deputy FHWA administrator Gregory Nadeau added.

The agency also announced about $3 million to support road projects across federal lands in Hawaii, Montana, Tennessee and Oregon.

ā€œThe roads that carry America to and through its national forests and parks, tribal lands and other federal lands need help, just like the rest of our nation’s highway system,ā€ Foxx added.
