Chamber of Commerce President Calls for Higher Gas Tax

U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Thomas Donohue said it was time for an increase in the federal gasoline taxto help pay for infrastructure improvements, Reuters reported.

Donohue told reporters following his annual State ofAmerican Business Address on Thursday that it is time to “quit fooling around” and raise the gas tax to help fund infrastructure investments, Reuters said.

The federal highway trust fund is low on revenue, in part because of a slow economy and because more fuel-efficient vehicles cut gasoline consumption, Donohue said.
