For CDL trainers and some fleets, truck driving simulators are among the most innovative and realistic ways to #recruit new drivers.

What if you could warn a driver about a hazard before they came across it? Have a certain area that you don’t want drivers entering, or known areas that have caused accidents, fender-benders, or speeding tickets within your fleet?

Approximately 80 carriers and 2,500 drivers chosen for the #FMCSA study will collect and provide 12 months of data to help determine the frequency and severity of detention time drivers face when making deliveries. 

“Part of the issue our industry is facing is that too many people decided to pursue trucking strictly for the money, and that lack of passion is having a negative effect on our image and reputation," says Dave Dein, CDL coordinator at Patterson High School in California.

The primary goal, experts say, is to never be surprised by an early winter storm and keep fleets running. Prepare for anything your drivers and your trucks might need. 

Recruitment trends in trucking began returning to more normalized levels after a frenzied start to the year that was very much influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trucking companies are working to expand their driver recruitment reach by bolstering diversity and inclusion initiatives, experts said.

A newly released summary of public comments on the federal driver apprenticeship pilot program was mixed, with trucking trade groups generally supporting the program, while many small truckers and independent operators offered a variety of criticisms and suggestions.
